Courage in the face of a rigged system

Courage in the face of a rigged system

A senior female citizen's unwavering stand against a flawed election and for the rights of the people.

I have lived long enough to know when something is wrong at its core. What is being called an election in our local housing cooperative is not right. It is not fair. And it is not lawful.

I have watched procedures meant to protect us as residents be cast aside. I have seen those entrusted with oversight remain absent when they should have been present. The very Officer, who was meant to stand as a fair hand, never came. Delegates were sent instead. How can you ensure fairness when you will not even step foot where fairness is needed, and you are required by law to be physically present to ensure no unlawful activity takes place? You cannot.

This distance is not accidental. When you choose to remain away, you also choose not to see. And when you do not see, you can pretend not to know. But we know. I know.

If my nomination is rejected, I will not be surprised. It will be one more act in a process that has already lost its legitimacy. I do not see rejection by a broken system as defeat. I see it as proof of the brokenness.

I will not concede to wrongdoing. I will not be silenced about a corrupt process built on avoidance and evasion.

I have faced many things in my life. I will face this too. I will continue to stand up for what is right. Not because it is easy, but because it is necessary.

I am not fighting for myself alone. I am fighting for everyone who believes that fairness and accountability should not be optional.

I am here. I will remain. And I will continue to speak until justice is done.

FAQ on Objections to the Cooperative Society Election
1. Why have you raised objections to the election process?

The objections have been raised to ensure that the election process is conducted strictly in accordance with prescribed procedures and established principles of transparency. Elections in a cooperative society directly affect governance, financial oversight, and member rights. It is therefore important that all procedural requirements are followed so that members can participate on an informed and equal footing. The matter remains contested and unresolved.

2. Have these concerns been formally communicated to the authorities?

Yes. The concerns have been formally communicated through written and electronic representations and have also been set out in a legal notice issued to the Returning Officer and the Society. These communications were intended to place the issues on record and seek procedural compliance in advance, rather than after the election. The matter remains contested and unresolved.

3. How does this process benefit ordinary members of the society?

Raising procedural concerns benefits ordinary members by promoting transparency, informed participation, and confidence in the governance of the society. Elections in a cooperative society directly influence how financial decisions are made, how common resources are managed, and how member interests are represented. When members remain aware of procedural issues and their status, they are better placed to understand the basis on which decisions are taken and representatives are chosen. This awareness helps reduce confusion, misinformation, and future disputes, irrespective of electoral outcomes. The matter remains contested and unresolved.

4. What happens if the objections are upheld at a later stage?

If, at a later stage, a competent authority or court were to uphold objections affecting the validity of the election process, the consequences would be determined strictly in accordance with applicable law and the specific findings recorded. Depending on the nature and extent of any procedural defects established, the authority may issue directions it considers appropriate. The matter remains contested and unresolved.

5. Has any authority or court decided these issues so far?

No. The objections have been placed on record remains contested and unresolved.
