We Stood Together. We Spoke the Truth. And We Will Not Stop.

Since 21 November 2025, our community was forced into a moment that tested our courage and our unity. An election notice suddenly appeared, dated earlier but delivered later, signed by a Returning Officer who had been appointed in a way that violated the law.

As residents looked into the situation, the truth emerged slowly and painfully. The Returning Officer had not been informed of the laws that governed her role. She had been guided into signing documents without proper understanding. And she had been placed under pressure at a time when she should have been protected.

For many residents, especially women, this incident did not come as a surprise. They had seen a pattern before. They had experienced moments where certain office bearers of the committee tried to dismiss, intimidate, or undermine women’s voices. This time was no different. The attempt to manipulate the Returning Officer, a senior woman, felt like part of a broader atmosphere that many residents had already felt. This time, however, the community refused to let it continue.

What happened next is a story of bravery. Residents spoke up. A coordinated effort was made possible through the quiet but steady support of three lawyers and three legal advisors who helped residents structure every step with precision and legal correctness. Notices were written. Legal rights were asserted. A formal complaint was filed with the Registrar. Cease and desist letters were issued. And in the middle of all of this, the Returning Officer found the courage to do the lawful and ethical thing by submitting her handwritten withdrawal letter. She stated openly that she did not know the rules, and that she no longer wished to be part of what was happening. During this difficult moment, the three lawyers and three legal advisors ensured that both the residents and the Returning Officer was informed correctly, protected under the law, and supported with clarity.

Despite no returning office in place, the committee continued pushing the illegal election process. They continued acting as if nothing had changed. They continued ignoring objections. They continued pushing the election forward despite knowing that every step was now unlawful. Residents could not allow this. A final notice was issued, stating clearly that any further action would not only be illegal but criminal in nature.

Our legal team met with the Registrar’s Office in person.

Only after this did the committee step back and announce a cancellation.

This victory belongs to every resident who refused to be silenced. It belongs to the women who have felt unheard or dismissed and still spoke up. It belongs to every senior citizen who stood firm. It belongs to every neighbour who helped another read a notice, understand a law, or write a letter. We did not win because one person fought. We won because everyone stood together. We won because unity is stronger than intimidation. We won because truth does not lose to manipulation when people refuse to look away.

But this is not the end. It is the start of something bigger and more powerful. Stopping an illegal election was only the first chapter. Now we must make sure that a lawful Returning Officer is appointed. We must ensure that proper, fair elections take place. And we must ensure that any pattern of harassment, intimidation, or undermining of women in this cooperative is addressed openly and firmly. Past behaviour cannot be ignored simply because someone has finished their term. Accountability does not expire.

Our residents have already shown what courage looks like. We have shown that when someone tries to pressure, mislead or silence women, the entire community stands up. We have shown that we are done with fear. We are done with manipulation. And we are done accepting anything less than dignity and fairness.

Our collective strength was further reinforced by the expertise of the three lawyers and three legal advisors who helped transform our unity into a lawful, strategic and effective response.

This is our society.
This is our strength.
This is our victory.
And this is only the beginning.

PS: Many residents also observed that even in their cancellation letter, the same pattern continued. The office bearers who have previously been described by residents as displaying misogynistic and oppressive behaviour put into writing statements that effectively acknowledged their own role in the unlawful election process. At the same time, they included claims that constitute yet another serious legal violation. A formal legal process has already been initiated to address this written misconduct. The matter is now with the appropriate authorities, where it will be examined under the law with full transparency.
